Gia at Black Star Studio - Part 3
When I created the original shoot plan I really wanted a textured, knitted turtleneck jumper included. I don’t know why but that was in my head and I thought the images would look cool, and Gia obviously pulled it off in such a chic way. I love the way the light picks out the ribbing in the top and glows on her hair. I made sure the grid was off the light for these images because I wanted them to be romantic and soft, and it spills beautifully on to the background. I tried to get full length shots and I spotted this black chair leaning against the wall and thought it would look cool. Black Star Studio is a really nice space but with an 85mm lens I was right up against the wall to get these!
I really love the way these turned out and the shots where Gia is playing with her hair are great. However, at this point in the shoot we’d done about 1.25hr and I felt bad because I felt I’d reached my creative limit, so I asked Gia if she wanted to change back into the outfit she’d arrived in and took some final standing images. After thinking about it I realised that I shouldn’t have felt bad, because we had taken so many beautiful images in a short amount of time and that was really down to how accommodating and professional Gia was.
Overall I am incredibly proud of this shoot. I did something that really caused me anxiety, because I don’t like going in to situations where I don’t 100% know what I’m doing but not only did I achieve it, I adore what I took. From start to finish I organised and created this shoot but also learned how to listen and artistically collaborate with a person that I had never met before.
If you’re a photographer, new or experienced, I highly recommend Gia and you can find her Instagram account here and her Purple Port profile here.
