Dany Diabla @ UKTTA
I’ve long had a love of tattoos and tattoo culture so when I saw that the UKTTA festival was going to be in Birmingham I thought it would be a great opportunity to see some amazing artists and try out the Z7 at an event. I had seen that Dany Diabla was scheduled to be on at 1pm so after loads of walking around the venue and spotting things I wanted to buy (and being jealous of all the amazing tattoos) I grabbed a free bench in the event area. The show was introduced by Johnny Doom, a mainstay in our local hard rock scene and the easily recognisable voice of Kerrang! Radio, who helped quickly set things up.
When Dany came out I thought she looked stunning and I am totally in love with this red dress and could easily do a full shoot with it, it’s stunning. Dany was as fantastic a performer as I had expected and I thought the balloon popping was really fun, plus the glitter and her beaded outfit looked really effective under the lights. I was so glad to get a cool shot of her pouring the glitter because it looks really effective. After seeing this show I was really gutting I’d not been able to attend on the Saturday to see the previous shows she and Flik Renee had done but I’m hoping I’ll catch them around Birmingham again in the future.
On a technical note I was really happy with how the Z7 performed. The eye focus was working really well this time, as I’ve had issues with it missing the pupil when shooting wide open at f1.8 in the past but even when Dany was spinning around it caught some great shots. Also, considering how far away I was and the crops I’ve made the quality of the 85mm twinned with the Z7s sensor is an absolute joy, even in the low light.
All social links for Dany Diabla and Twin Flames, her performance duo, are at the bottom of the post and you can see my photoset from Flik Renee’s show here.
